The backlash from Kanye and Kim’s Vogue cover ensues as magazine editor, Anna Wintour becomes the target.
What some would call an April Fool’s joke; others would say-only a fool would take such risks. With so much at stake; why would Anna Wintour gamble on these-two?
She says, “There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason: Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.”
“Strength of character?” Notice, the glaring omission of style or fashion, in the “fashion editor’s” statement. So, “why”, I ask? I sincerely doubt anyone in the industry would view Kim as a fashion-icon or inspiration.
Could she possibly believe the controversy that would undoubtedly emanate from such a clear lapse of judgement, equate to sales?
If so, she is truly an April-fool as many of the subscribers view her decision to display such a polarizing couple, out-of-touch with the readership, and are now threatening to cancel their subscriptions.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
