Fox’s mega hit, “Empire” returned big numbers for its season 2 premiere with 16.2 million viewers. With a host of celebrity cameos including actress Marisa Tomei, Chris Rock, Al Sharpton, Don Lemon and great script writing, we can expect the numbers to continue to rise all season.
Taraji P Henson appears to have gotten an increase in her wardrobe budget as “Cookie” was fierce the entire episode. So much so, former American editor-at-large for Vogue magazine, Andre Leon Talley was brought in for a little fashion critique and designer Tom Ford was mentioned at least three times.
Everyone seemed to step-it-up-a-notch as Boo Boo Kitty showed us her ratchet side and Jamal, played by Jussie Smollett had the biggest transformation of them all.
It’s clear, his character will dispel the myth-Gay men are soft/weak as he is becoming his father, Lucious Lyon before our eyes.
BTW, Cookie got a little diss in for rapper 50 Cents during the episode mentioning a comment he supposedly posted to Instagram.
Well something similar did happen last season; however, 50 is like the Donald Trump of the Hip Hop world and decided to get in on the fun by posting a short video himself saying, “Man why Cookie going in on me. Thirsty? You know we go way back and I hit that.”
Now these real-life type scenarios that get added to the script are precisely what help make Empire all the more special.
The premiere didn’t quite live up to the hype for me and unlike other opinions, Chris Rock wasn’t very convincing as a brutal drug lord but the music was good and I was overall entertained.
Congratulations to cast and crew for getting Empire season 2 off to a great start!
