Even though “After Midnight” had a host of star power the Broadway Musical is expected to close at the end of the month.

Patti Labelle succeeded Fantasia Barrino in the toe-topping jazz revue, directed by Warren Carlyle. The Tony-nominated tuner features the songs of Duke Ellington and his contemporaries, played by the Jazz at Lincoln Center All Stars Orchestra.

The musical never drew big numbers despite having received rave reviews from just about every major publication. It lost the competition for Best Musical at last week’s Tony Awards, seemingly sealing its fate.

The cost of the show was estimated at $7 million by the N.Y. Times and unfortunately; it is nowhere close to recouping that.
