In a joint statement to the Associated Press, the Knowles-Carter family finally released a statement addressing the Solange attack on Jay Z in the elevator of the Standard Hotel:
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred.
“They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.
“The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”
Well there you have it! I doubt this will put an end to the highly-imaginative speculation though. This is the biggest scandal to hit the Knowles-Carter family and the public is extremely curious about what triggered the angry attack.
Apologies may abound but I’m still saying, Jay Z’s relationship with Solange will never be the same and Solange will forever be stigmatized by this incident.
The fact that Solange went there (though she thought the elevator was private) in such a public place speaks to her low-level of celebrity.
In 2007, she told Essence magazine in regards to Beyoncé‘s success,
“I don’t want to get that far, I feel really bad for my sister. I’m always like, ‘Oh, let’s go to the mall,’ or ‘Let’s go here,’ and she can’t. I enjoy having that.”
“But I admire my sister so much,” adds Solange. “She’s one of my role models in that she is successful and classy. She’s very diplomatic and lives her life true to self.”
For the most part Jay Z practiced tremendous restraint; however, people are criticizing Beyoncé‘s impassive behavior when they really should commend her. No one in that elevator was more aware than her.
For every hiccup or bump in the road Solange is bound to face, this video will remain a constant reference. And consequently, she will always be known as Beyoncé’s crazed little-sister.
