A Chinese mother savagely beat her six-year-old son with a wire hanger for not doing his homework.
The Daily Mail is reporting, no action was taken against the mother as police said the injuries were not as bad as they looked, and agreed with the mom who said the boy¬†had been ‘naughty’ for not doing his homework.
The boy, Xiao Bing’s teacher discovered his injuries while he was getting changed for a sports lesson.
The police in Jiangmen City in¬†China’s southern Guangdong province told the mother not to beat the child so severely in the future.¬† Go figure!
This doesn’t come as a surprise as academic success is highly-valued¬†in Chinese culture.¬†¬†As American students¬†continue to struggle in math and reading, students in Shanghai took international exams for the first time and outscored every other school system in the world.
A 2009 study showed Chinese students came out on top across all subjects where American students ranked 25th in math, 17th in science and 14th in reading.
Yes, being number one comes at a price, but a child’s emotional well-being should never be compromised.
We need to do more to emphasize the importance of education in our country; however, institutionalized child abuse is not the answer.
