Victoria Beckham designs may be worn by many, but some of the industry’s top-designers are not so impressed!
UK Daily Mail is reporting, designer Stefano Gabbana (half of Dolce & Gabbana Italian label) said the former Spice Girl had turned to fashion after doing ‘many, many, many different things,’ and continued: ‘she’s a designer but…for us, she don’t [sic] make (clothes) the same way like a fashion designer.’
Domenico Dolce (the other half) grouped Beckham, whose designs have appeared on catwalks at New York Fashion week, with mainstream retailers such as Zara and H&M.
Not exactly a bad comparison considering Zara and H&M rank amongst the highest in ‘Ready to Wear’.
In 2011 Beckham was named designer of the year at the prestigious British Awards beating out the likes of Stella McCartney and Tom Ford.
When asked about the future of her brand, she said, “You know, I do want to start a shoe collection,” and asked, “If anybody here is a shoe designer, please do come and see me! I definitely think shoes is probably the next category that I’ll look at going into; it’s quite a competitive category but I would love to go into [it].”
She acknowledge it would be a tough road ahead, saying, “I actually work with Manolo Blahnik on the shoes for my show every season and working with him is remarkable.” Adding, “I think it’s very complicated… I wouldn’t just want to do a signature shoe – I’d have to make sure I’m working with the right factories, do a flat…”
Personally, I love Victoria’s style and designs, but I also love Zara and H&M so go-figure.
